In school, we were taught “the longer the essay, the more sense you’re making” so you write until you go over the word count.

However, in UX Writing, we love saying “the less, the better.” You only have a few seconds to get the users attention, so you need to focus on adding value by being concise and impactful.

  1. It’s all about language and tone. Always use proactive language.

  1. Add a clear call to action. Although this is common sense in content, there’s a big emphasis on a user's experience.

  1. Always work towards a solution. If there’s a mistake or error, make sure you resolve it and let the user know it can be resolved. If not, let them know an alternative. Don’t leave users feeling useless and frustrated, even when it’s not your fault.

  1. Injecting a bit of loss aversion in a modal experience. FOMO is real, even in digital interactions.
